Sometimes referred to as the gateway to Swaledale and the Mallerstang Edge Moors, the pretty village of Nateby is located near the confluence of the River Eden, just over a mile from Kirkby Stephen. This rural, sleepy village boasts a traditional pub and a petrol station which also serves as the village shop. Composed of a scattering of dwellings and farmsteads built from the local Brockram stone, this village is within easy driving distance of the market town of Kirkby Stephen, once home to bobbin mills. Today, the settlement hosts a variety of shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs, catering for all tastes. Visitors can enjoy many excellent walks and cycle routes through the surrounding countryside, or alternatively explore the magnificent Howgill Fells and the Settle to Carlisle railway line.
