Ilfracombe makes a perfect holiday base with its charming harbour flower-strewn shopping streets lazy pavement cafes and a wide selection of places to eat as well as the new harbour side restaurant that is owned by the artist Damien Hirst. Just 10 minutes by car are the golden sands of Woolacombe Croyde and Saunton Sands.
