There is excellent walking on Offa's Dyke (1 mile), and on the hills and canalside near Montgomery; Red kites soar above the RSPB reserve at Lake Vyrnwy (22 miles), which also offers sailing, canoeing and cycle hire; and the Tanat mountains boast spectacular views and the highest waterfall in Wales. Beautiful Lake Bala and its steam railway are less than an hour's scenic drive away. Home to Powis Castle and gardens (N.T.) and a steam railway, the market town of Welshpool is 8 miles. Historic Shrewsbury, for excellent shopping, is 12 miles and Roman Chester an hour's drive. Quad biking is available nearby. Shop, P.O., garage and pub serving food are all under 1 mile.
